BLACK STRIPE BOULDER
Topo By Tristan Cleveland
A boulder at Long Lake, right in Halifax, with some great problems in the V3 to V4 range — and one much harder project. It's on the lake's southern side, just left of centre, right on its shore, and is very obvious once you see it. Note: half the boulder is under water when the lake is high in spring.

1. Black Belt SDS V4 star

Sit on the rock and use anything you can reach (but do note the crimp on the right). Get to the pinch and then pull over to the big flake, and then use high feet to reach the sloper and big rail at the top. A problem that tests your resourcefulness and technique! 🎯
2. Warmup slab V0 star

The slab has various warm-up lines, ranging from V0 to a hard V1. The easiest is on the right and the middle and left are harder. A perfect spot to warm up or work on your slab technique! 👣

3. Apoptosis V1 star

Use the good foothold and any crimps you can find to stand up. Then grab the rails and go left until you find a good spot to top out. No refunds. A problem that challenges your balance and crimp strength! 🏔️
6. Kickstand V1 star

Start on the rail and pivot over a left foot to reach the sidepull, then work your way up. Exclude the large rock below the boulder. Variation: Start via Apogee for a surprisingly tricky V3 link-up. A problem that tests your balance and footwork, with an interesting variation to mix things up! 🔄
4. Apotheosis SDS V4 star

Use the undercling in the cave to reach up to the big crimp, and then link-up with Apogee’s finish. The large rock below the boulder is in. A problem that offers a powerful start followed by technical moves! 💥
5. Apogee SDS V3 star

Start with both hands on a low crimp on the bulge of rock, and use a right heel to pull up. Follow the line of holds left to the good jug, and then make the big moves upwards to top out. Excellent. A problem that combines powerful moves and dynamic climbing! 🤸

7. Near Death SDS V4 star

Use the obvious crimps on the right and left and climb up the face. Everything’s in. Hard start. Named in honour of that time the huge jug came off mid-climb. A problem that requires a strong start and a keen eye for crimps! 💪
